Scriba VFD held our yearly installation banquet at the Oswego Elks Lodge. As always we recognized several members for their dedication and service to the department and our community.
Jackie Simoneau was recognized as our corporate member of the year. Jackie dedicated countless hours to several fund raising events for the Scriba Fire Department, most notably our Craft Show, which has become one of the larger craft shows in the area due to her hard work.
Christian Whaley was recognized as our firefighter of the year, as well as receiving the most training. Christian attended over 200 hours of training in 2019 between state and county classes as well as departmental training!
Kenneth Dolan was recognized as our officer of the year. Kenny served as the EMS officer in 2019 and also took on a role as Lieutenant near the end of the year.
Tyler Wallace was recognized as our rookie of the year. Tyler joined Scriba as a RAM and was voted in as an active member in 2019. For the duration of his time at Scriba FD he has been very active both on the fire and corporate side of the department and we appreciate everything he has done for us!
Our top responder for the year of 2019 was Chief Brian Solazzo (2nd Asst. Chief for 2019) with 245 calls!
Also pictured is the swearing in of our board of directors for 2020, Karl Slobe Sr. as president, Bill Wilder as Vice President, Ashley Haskins as treasurer, Dave Kuhl, Bob Greene, and Tyler Wallace as board members. Not present is Matthew Germain as Secretary.
And finally, our fire line was sworn in as well. Brian Solazzo as Chief (2701), William McSweeney as 1st Asst. Chief (2702), Stephen Merron as Captain, Kurt Werhman as 2nd Lieutenant, and Kenneth Dolan as 3rd Lieutenant. Not pictured is Lenny Hartle as 2nd Asst. Chief (2703) and Haley Jones as 1st Lieutenant.
Chief Solazzo, Captain Merron, FF Solazzo Jr, FF Whaley, and FF Wallace also received a unit commendation for their efforts on 6/20/2019 during a flash flood when Scriba Fire Department was activated for 11 calls. These members staffed our station and answered every call that day!
It was a successful year for Scriba Fire Department and we have been set up well for the year to come! Thank you to all who attended and the Oswego Elks Lodge for the amazing food.
Also a big thank you to Novelis FD for staffing an engine to stand by at our station so we could enjoy the banquet. Shortly after the banquet we were activated for a structure fire in New Haven, Novelis responded in our place but we were also able to send a fully staffed SCBA engine and place a second engine in service to cover both districts during that time!
